Making A Simple Hanging Jewelry Organizer

2010 February 9

Hanging jewelry organizers are some of the easiest things out there today to make. Some of the great benefits of making these are that you save money, can design it however you want and you can make as many pockets as you want.

The first thing that we will need to do is to make a materials list. There are not a lot of materials but the ones that we need are crucial to the success of your hanging jewelry organizer. The materials that we need are a piece of plastic or cloth sheet such as a tarp or bed sheet. A sharp pair of scissors, measuring tape, stick of super glue, sewing machine or needle and thread and or a hot glue gun, a coat hanger, and a pencil marker or piece of chalk.

Once we have collected all of our materials it is time to begin construction of the hanging jewelry organizer. The first step that we need to take is to cut the material for the pockets. The easiest way to do this is to cut ten pieces of material the width of the large piece of material, and the length of about four or five inches.

Once you have cut the strips it is now time to begin to add them to the large piece of material. The easiest way that I have found is to either hot glue or super glue the bottom edges of one of the strips onto the bottom of the large piece of material. After doing this begin sewing the bottom edge of the strip and sides onto the large piece of material.

The third step after sewing the strip to the material is to sew the lines for the pockets and add the rest of the strips. At this point in the project I usually look at what I am going to be putting in the hanging jewelry organizer to figure out how large or small I want the pockets to be. Once I finish this I measure the sewn strip and sew in the pocket divider with a vertical sewn line.

The closing step is where we adjoin the hanging component to hanging jewelry organizer. This is where we adjoin the coat hanger to the main piece of fabric. At this position every one of the strips should be sewn into the chief material and prepared into pockets. Once this is done cut a small piece of cloth and cut an opening just big enough for the hook part of the coat hanger to fit. Once this is done hem the cloth around the gap as to offer tear support for the hanger when it sustains the organizer.
